Fifty States - Portraits of a Nation
“Fifty States” is Alessandro’s main documentary project started in 2023 and actually ongoing, with the aim to describing America at 360° thought various point of view. I was always fascinated about everything surrounds American culture and society. Talking about United States always open my mind thought various through. America is a melting pot of culture, people, traditions, a complex world with various contrast in different field. Starting from the landscape, to the history culture, the social problems, religion, beliefs, people, Fifty states want to be a complete vision of America, realized thought different photo sub-project.
“Fifty States” photography project is organized as a collection of interconnected sub-projects, each exploring distinct themes that collectively portray the essence of the United States.
Pure Southwest: completed in late summer 2023, a photographic project dedicated to document a specific part of America: the wilderness land of the southwest. The US Southwest is tough. the landscape is constellated by desert, saguaros, red rocks formations. The land is vastness, nothing from miles and miles, the temperature can reach easily 115 F. This is the land of various US Indian tribes like Navajo. Culture and heritage were forged here. Southwest is also an icon of what America is in the world. Grand Canyon in Arizona is the undisputed symbol of the American West and USA all over the world. Five different states were involved : Arizona - Colorado - New Mexico - Utah and Nevada. Every states with their own particularity, places that seems so close but in some therm are faraway.
Comanche Nation: programmed for summer 2025. A photographic journey through Texas and Oklahoma exploring the life, culture, and traditions of one of the largest native American tribes: the Comanche. This project seeks to highlight the cultural contrast between the modern world and the enduring traditions of the Indian tribes in the southern United States, that will be captured through simple yet evocative photographs that portray the essence of everyday life.
Amish Society in the flyover country: Future realization. Exploring the Midwest, particularly the countryside of Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, capturing the daily lives of Amish, their traditions, beliefs, and interactions with the outside world.
On a Boarder: Future realization. The project will focus on the narrative and visuals along the US-Mexico border, highlighting the unique stories and scenes captured “on a boarder“.
